Machine Soul, a documentary about Finnish electronic music, successfully hit a 4,000€ minimum funding goal last week, according to the campaign’s Facebook page.
This comes one month after limited edition newspaper Uuden Maan Sanomat (or New Land Message) successfully raised more than 16,000€, also on the crowdfunding platform Mesenaatti.
Journalism and storytelling projects seem to fare well on Mesenaatti.
The Finnish platform was launched by accident in 2012, has campaigns in Finnish and English, and is run by a small team based in Helsinki.
Uuden Maan Sanomat and ‘Machine Soul’ aren’t the only journalism projects to find funders on Mesenaatti.
Last year a documentary about a Finnish religion, Greenland photography book and rebranding of the internationally known Photo Raw magazine were successfully funded on the platform to the tune of 28,000€, or about $31,000.
A campaign for a documentary about a world champion senior citizen weightlifter has four days left to raise 1,000€.
