Hungarian investigative journalism outlet wildly popular in first 24 hours

Direkt36, an investigative journalism outfit from Hungary, have captured more than half of their 20,000€ goal in the first 24 hours of their campaign.

“We decided to create Direkt36 after the conditions at our previous news organization stopped allowing us to practice the kind of fair but tough journalism that we believe in. With our non-profit reporting center we will have much more freedom to serve the Hungarian public,” the group said on their crowdfunding campaign website.

International Journalists’ Network wrote a background piece about Direkt36 and their plans earlier this month.
